Vienna Rays of Hope 2021 — Civil Courage in the Light of Art

Gaussplatz – Kinderpark/Stadtpark – Yppenplatz – Keplerplatz are the artistic intervention sites of the second edition of WIENER LICHTBLICKE [VIENNA RAYS OF HOPE]. Until 10 March 2022, they will conjure up a very special atmosphere in the city every evening and early in the morning: Chromotopia to strengthen body, mind and soul.

Light graphics and paintings flow through parks and over trees, paths and squares. They open up new spaces, so-called Chromotopia: chromatic light spaces of encounter, movement and participation, but also of rest and regeneration.

Light-based art is superscribing squares and parks, flowing over paths, greens and trees, touching animals and people. Light graphics by Carsten Busse, Victoria Coeln, Margot Pilz, Deborah Sengl und Gabriele Stötzer are drawing radically new perspectives into the urban space.

The children discover their traces first, run and hop on lines, do their gymnastics in colours. Chromatic light lines create a special atmosphere, for a first date, for evening walks alone, as a couple, with friends.

Performative manifestations meet practices of appropriation and self-empowerment and create spaces of the political (Hannah Arendt).

WIENER LICHTBLICKE, conceived for the public space at the interface of the aesthetic and the political, is the lighthouse project of NIPAS – nomadic institute for political arts and sciences.
