Light Studio — Leipzig

The multifunctional workspace

Art object, camera obscura, rehearsal stage for artistic formats and practices, light laboratory and cognitive space.

For four months, Victoria Coeln and Žiga Jereb moved into their workplace in the middle of the public space, in the exhibition area of the Museum of Fine Arts Leipzig. A wide variety of groups, institutions, DJs and artists met here. Together they worked on formats and films for the Lichträume and Lichtring in the context of the Monday demonstrations in the fall of '89.

Around 50,000 visitors came to the Studio in Residence. Here, they were not only able to watch the artist duo at work, but also experience themselves as part of a new inclusive art form. Spontaneously and completely unexpectedly, reception, participation and performance became a self-determined creation: movements, bodies and sometimes props or instruments brought along were used to create kaleidoscopic images of light and shadow. Images whose expressiveness, perfection and diversity were not only intended to transfer the concept of tableaux vivants to the present day, but to completely redefine it, live, between reality and digitality.
